No Kentucky Derby contest this year. Disappointed! I have had a really lame spring cold, including a hacking cough that kept me from doing anything this week (besides assuring people I haven't recently been to Mexico or the Bronx). Luckily I was able to languish on the couch while my mom, up for a visit, took care of my kids but I still wasn't able to get my act together to post the contest. Maybe I'll do a Preakness special this year. Stay tuned.
It turned out to be a great race, though, didn't it? One of the reasons I love horse racing is that it produces some of the best sports writing you will ever read. If you weren't able to catch the race, or even if you were, read this recap from the incomparable Joe Drape. He is a throwback of the best kind - I always imagine him at a typewriter chomping on a cigar as he pounds out his turf poetry. I could read him all day. (And I probably will - just found out he's on Twitter. Ahem, boo-yah!)
