Halloween was a blast. Lowell went as himself (see pic) and cavorted in the green green grass of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden with his jungle pal Gilby (and some random barn animal). The sheer amount of cute kids in costume during the "Ghouls and Gourds Festival" is criminal. I thought I was going to lose my mind. Leah and Neil (gilby's parents) went as Siegfried and Roy and acted out a scene where Gilby as Tiger mauls her mother as Roy repeatedly. It was sick in the best way and we have it on tape. There was also a lot of adult hula hooping (fig 1, fig 2, fig 3). After the garden excursion we said goodbye to our intrepid Manhattan friends as they made their way back to the island and went off to a Halloween party - Lowell's first invitation! It was fun for all and Lowell is now over his helium balloon aversion. This was all on Sunday and by Monday Halloween proper we were pretty much over it. There is a big parade in Park Slope near our place but man, it was just too close to bedtime, and we know: Thou shalt not f*ck with the bedtime. Next year. Just as an aside I went to target today and stopped in a bath and bodyworks nearby. The carols were booming and the whole place stunk of cinnamon. I couldn't believe it. I know that it's Hallowthankmas-time but for real? On Nov 1? Nat King Cole and 'holiday spice' candles? Blech. I couldn't take it - headed straight to target and stood in the 50% off halloween candy aisle until I regained my equilibrium. And more candy corn.
