Me, On The Pot

More than anything I hate the big catch-up post but if I don't do it I'll never post again so here is a big fat blarghity list:

1. Lowell started school a few weeks ago. It is going really well and the only problem he has with it so far is that he doesn't get to stay there long enough. Coincidentally this is also my only problem with it.

2. Because Lowell is in school three full days a week I have had much more quality time with my crazy-ass daughter. She is just so much fun and so insane. She is showing herself to have quite the zany personality with a big 'ol streak of determination. Pretty sure her new nickname, Iron Willa, is going to stick.

3. Finished Willa's baby blanket. Can finally cross the last thing off my to-do list from a year ago. Watch out world, I'm getting things done. Post with pictures will be up on Roses Are Blue soon.

4. Speaking of Roses Are Blue you have to see Kara's newest bag creation. Etsy shop coming soon, folks, I'm just saying.

5. Politics. Where do I start? I guess I will just repeat the mantra here that I have been telling all my friends and family for the last few months: Barack Obama will be our next president. Barring any incredible October whackadoo he will be our next president. The momentum will start to pick up again in the next few weeks and it will be unstoppable. Do not waste time fretting about John McCain and certainly do not lose sleep over that big phony Sarah Palin. Just don't. Be confident, indulge in a little swagger, and do what you need to do to keep the powder dry. I don't talk about politics that much here but let me be quite clear where I stand: if ever any bums needed to be thrown the f*ck out it's the Republicans. I mean, seriously, what is the use of living in the democracy if we don't occasionally use the power we grant ourselves?

6. David Foster Wallace. How does one get over this? Not sure. It's bad enough to lose such an exceptional voice but losing it to suicide is crushing. Still in disbelief.

7. The economy. Or I should say the econo-unchecked-greed-being-bailed-out-by-you-and-me. Can't even talk about it I am so angry. Seriously.

8. Julius and Ethel Rosenberg guilty? For a person coming from a lefty family this is like finding out that Santa is a pedophile.

Surely I have forgotten a few things I wanted to post about but that's a nice even number. Feeling better already.

 

Now This Is A Vacation Photo

That's my sister and brother-in-law obviously having the time of their lives with The Banana Splits. Totally jealous. Those dudes know how to party. Or at least I thought they did when I was eight.

Matthew goes back to teaching tomorrow. I am in complete denial. This summer has been so mellow I really do not want it to end. (Except I am DONE with sunscreen. Good God, there has to be a better way.) Matthew was home almost every day and, because we agreed to this at the onset, there were no big projects. (That was the best decision ever. I think we went to Home Depot twice in the last two months. Take that, home improvement monkey!) We joined a pool a very short walk from our house so afternoons were often spent there. Lowell pretty much taught himself how to swim. Matthew worked in his garden and hung out with his baby girl. We all clocked some good naps. The best thing though was just having so much time. Time to just hang out and be together. If time is money we were freaking loaded this summer.

Fall coming isn't all bad though. This year Lowell is starting school and I am so excited for him. He needs a life so badly and I just know he is going to love it.  Also, so excited for me. He'll be going three full days a week. Hallelujah. And excited for Willa too. She'll finally be getting to spend time with a mom who isn't yelling constantly. It's super win-win-win and I can't wait.
